David Culbert’s passion for sport has taken him from the heights of competition to sports business, marketing and communications roles.
His broadcast roles have made him one of the best-regarded commentators in the county and as an accomplished and engaging MC, his work has seen him host events ranging from the Prime Minister’s Olympic Dinner to national and state sports awards, conferences and events.
A dual Olympic long jumper (Seoul 1998 and Barcelona 1992), David’s trophy cabinet also holds two Commonwealth Games medals and three Australian championships. He reached the World Championships final in 1991, where he finished 6th in what is regarded as the greatest long jump competition in history.
David has worked on every summer Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games since 1998, along with other major events including the winter Olympic Games, the World Athletics Championships and the Australian Open tennis tournament.
His Paris Olympic Games commentary included epic gold medal wins by Jess and Noemie Fox in Canoe Slalom and Nina Kennedy in the Pole Vault.
David moved into sports marketing at the end of his competitive career and is now one of Australia’s leading sports business strategists. He is a life member of Athletics Australia and was previously an Athletics Australia selector. In 2022, he won the Sport Australia Media award for best broadcaster.
David is co-chair of the Australian Olympians Association and co-founder and director of Aussie Aths, a health and fitness program for kids based on athletics.
David is available for your next event, awards ceremony or conference and is able to seamlessly move from MC, moderator and interviewer as he weaves in stories from his own experiences in global sport.
