Wendy Green, the Darwin school teacher who became a national headline when her horse Rogan Josh won the 1999 Melbourne Cup, is a natural storyteller and her involvement in the Cup, passion for the history of the race and appreciation of what it has delivered to her and her family make for a wonderful tale.
Recognised by Australian Tourism as an International Story Teller and made a Friend of Australia, Wendy will have your guests captivated and enamoured as she relates her Cup fairytale, which led to her title of “Wendy on Wonderland”.
While Bart Cummings has no peer when it comes to winning Australia’sgreatest horse race, Wendy Green has no peer when it comes to telling the story about Rogan Josh, the horse that gave the Cups King his 11th Melbourne Cup. Wendy, who travelled 7,500 km by car on a round trip between Darwin and Melbourne to see her Josh race to glory, is now firmly entrenched as one of the key faces of Cup folklore.
The Victoria Racing Club has sensibly utilised Wendy’s talents over the past few years as part of the Cup promotional tour nationally and internationally.
In 2010 she was appointed a special Ambassador by the VRC for the 150thMelbourne Cup celebrations and in this capacity represented Australia’smost prestigious racing event at gala functions in many cities in Australia, Europe, and America. She's been to London, Dublin, Dubai, Los Angeles, New York...and each trip has a story that she is happy to share with you and your clients.
Wendy focuses on the Australian ethos; what it means to be an Australian in a changing cultural landscape and how, as Australians, we articulate our identity. As a guest speaker, Wendy has shared the lives of ordinary people with extraordinary stories of their own; to Peers of the Realm, minor Royalty, Hollywood stars, international racing personalities, sporting clubs, women in racing and political leaders.
Some of the tales have been sad, some funny but all have been a colourful and endearing reflection of our great nation. Wendy will leave your guests and clients uplifted, with a smile on their faces, a spring in their step and a warm feeling in their hearts. A firm favourite with the crowd she tells the story of the race that stops the nation like no other. Odds on your guests and clients will thank you for the experience.
