Born and raised in the Sydney suburb of Balmain, Wayne Pearce played 188 premiership games for the Balmain Tigers between 1980 and his retirement in 1990. He was captain of the club for seven seasons, including four successive Panasonic Cup Finals, and two grand finals. He was still a current player when he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for services to the Rugby League and the community.
Whilst developing his football career, Wayne completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of New South Wales which included 3 years of psychology studies, a theory he put into practice when he retired from playing and commenced a professional coaching career with the Balmain Tigers.
After leaving the professional sports coaching ranks, Wayne used his considerable knowledge of the psychology of performance to develop motivation and team development programs for the corporate world to improve workplace productivity.
